In the final moments at the Imperial Palace, Suzaku approached Lelouch on foot while wearing the Zero costume and mask, rather than piloting his KMF. Unlike Lelouch, who orchestrated every detail in secret, Suzaku was not aware of the plan's full scope from the beginning; he was only informed of the true nature of Operation Zero Requiem in Episode 24, shortly before the climax, making his role as the 'hero' all the more tragic and genuine.
